•  Always accompany young children when traveling–never leave them alone to watch luggage, save a place in line, go to the rest room, or other similar situations.

•  Pack each child’s bag lightly so he or she can easily carry or roll it.
•  Establish firm ground rules regarding behavior, whether indoors or outdoors.
•  Have a notarized permission letter from the other parent if one parent is traveling outside of the country with their child; from both parents if grandparents or other relatives are traveling with your child.

•  Teach your children not to wander off alone; to never go anywhere with a stranger; to never run into the street. Teach them the name of the hotel they’re staying in; what to do if they’re lost; and the complete first and last names of both mom and dad.
•  Inform your child, if leaving him or her in an organized kids’ club or care facility what they can expect and when they can expect you to pick them up.
•  Teach children to yell and scream loudly if they are in danger.

•  Pack extra formula and diapers for your baby and plenty of water and healthy foods for the older kids, in case of flight delays or cancelations.

•  Have games and toys readily available for kids to play with while waiting in lines, restaurants, or at airline, train, and ship gates.
