Wailea, Maui - A Favorite Family Beach Resort Vacation

When in Maui, Hawaii, do what the natives do, head for the beach. Sure I love visiting Kaanapali with its lively vibe, high rise hotels, lovely sandy beaches and beautiful views of the island, Molokai. However on our latest visit we fell in love with Maui’s south side of the island, Wailea with its newer resorts, terrific beaches, and views of Molokini.

There are four popular resorts located on the south side of Maui and the leeward side of Haleakala. Each resort offers plenty of activities that are sure to keep the active family of all ages well entertained.

The Grand Wailea Resort and Spa offers the active family with  9 interconnected pools with waterfalls, twisting slides, hot tubs, swim-through grottos and a Tarzan-like rope swing into an 8 ft deep pool. The troFind lots of water activities from the pools to the beach at Wailea's resorts.pical setting is located on a gorgeous bay ideal for snorkeling, kayaking ($25 an hour) and paddle boarding ($40 an hour). There are semi-private cabanas around the pool area for families ($400 a day, which include pool and activity service along with lots of snacks and beverages).

The Grand Wailea Resort’s Children Camp Grande offers activities for the kids from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. at $125 for a full day, $75 for a morning session and $95 for a night camp which is from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Four Seasons Wailea is the most luxurious and adult friendly resort in the area. I didn’t see many families here, yet they do offer complimentary full day children’s programs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for 5 to 12 year olds. The resort’s U-shaped design offers many ocean view rooms and suites. The resort provWailea's kids' programs provide endless fun for all ages.ides complimentary outrigger canoe lessons, cabanas and umbrellas, yoga, pilate and tai chi classes, and the use of a state-of-the-art fitness center.
Mom and dad can enjoy a relaxing break in the adult pool with its underwater music system, bubble lounge chairs, complimentary cucumber water, and cocktails and snacks at the swim-up bar. On the beach, you’ll find several huts that provide the needed shade from the Hawaiian sun along with several grass huts reserved for ocean view massages. Popular is the Wolfgang Puck’s Spago restaurant located nearby.
The beach located directly below the resort is one of the best snorkeling spots to see and swim with Hawaii’s green sea turtles.

Fairmont Kea Lani with its Moorish architecture is popular for its prWailea's resorts offer the ultimate of swimming pools with the best of water park activities.ivacy. You can choose from two and three bedroom ocean view villas with fenced in lanai’s, individual dipping pools, full kitchens, barbecues and outdoor eating areas. This resort is popular with the entertainment crowd.
The Fairmont’s family pool offers a waterslide and other fun pool activities. However, unlike the other resorts, the adult-only pool is located further back from the beach and offers no view of the ocean.
Our family had fun sailing the Fairmont’s outrigger with its bright red sail to a private snorkeling spot teeming with fish. The resort’s beach was a favorite with the girls for boogie boarding. The Kid’s Club for ages 5-13 kept our youngest entertained while my husband and I enjoyed some beach time.
