The Tyler Place, Highgate Springs, Vermont  
    This family owned country resort boasts 165 acres of woods and meadows, 500 acres of backcountry mountain bike trails, a mile of private shoreline on Lake Champlain, and a nearby 5600-acre wet-land wildlife refuge.     Activities & Entertainment:  (Open from late May-mid Sept.)      Just for Kids: Eight age-appropriate, fully supervised children’s programs for 1-16 year olds.  New-born and infant care available, with an assigned “parent helper.”  The programs offer the activities mentioned above plus arts and crafts, nature walks, hayrides, movies, treasure hunts, pool parties, puppet shows, carnivals, and games.

Cheeca Lodge, Islamorada, Florida  
     Located some 64 miles south of Miami in the Florida Keys travelers find an ecology minded resort. It was originally a fishing bungalow with a 535-foot pier, the longest and oldest wooden pier in the Florida Keys.  Surrounded by a protected ecosystem, this Caribbean plantation offers everything from nature walks to rounds of golf on its 27 landscaped acres.  Both the Atlantic and Gulf waters provide ample fishing from reef to deep sea, and a 1,100-ft palm-lined beach is ideal for an endless variety of beach and water activities.  Also, a visit to the nearby marine parks is a real treat.

Eagle Ridge Inn & Resort, Galena, Illinois
    In northwest Illinois, on the shores of 220-acre Lake Galena and among 6,800 acres of rolling hills and wooded valleys, guests find a variety of activities mixed with 63 challenging holes of golf.  Kick back and enjoy fishing for bass, walleye, and crappie; ride horseback on miles of trails throughout the beautiful countryside, and sharpen-up on that game of golf or tennis with pro-fessional instruction.  Visit nearby historic Galena too.

Flathead Lake Lodge, Bigfork, Montana
    Just south of Glacier National Park, on the shores of Flathead lake (15-miles wide and 30-miles long), and surrounded by the Rocky Mountains and Montana’s blue sky a 2,000-acre family operated dude ranch welcomes families.  You can pitch in and help train the colts, tend to the corral chores, try your hand at roping, learn to ride (ranch’s specialty), and hoot it up at the evening rodeo.  The surrounding Bob Marshall Wilderness and Jewel Basin Primitive Areas provide ample hiking and trail rides and the lake offers a variety of water activities like fishing for smaller Silver salmon and even 40-lb Mackinaw.  
    Activities & Entertainment:  (Open from May-Oct.) Extensive riding program--horseback riding with instruction, riding trails and arena, rodeos, breakfast/lunch trail rides, care for the horses and help with daily chores.  Hiking, sailing, white water rafting, canoeing, windsurfing, fishing, waterskiing, heated pool, tennis, volleyball, cook-outs, beachfires, barn dances, and lake and river cruises.
     Just for Kids: Supervised children’s program for ages able to participate--horseback rides, learn to ride, swim, help with the daily chores, arts and crafts, children’s rodeo, overnight camp out in tepees.  Kids 6 and older can join the cowboys on their own horses and ride trails.  Babysitting is available.
      Accommodations: The main and south log lodges have guest rooms; two and three bedroom cottages are also available.
    Dining: The main lodge dining room offers family-style meals and patio dining with views of the lake.

Coffee Creek Ranch, Trinity Center, California
    In Northern California, on Coffee Creek, surrounded by the Klamath and Shasta National Forests and the Trinity Alps Wilderness Area is a historical 127-acre dude ranch, once a boarding house for
miners in the early 1900s.  Families can saddle-up for rides through pine forests and along flowering mountain slopes to a wilderness lake--spotting deer, squirrels and hawks.  Spend the day fishing for plentiful trout in Coffee Creek, Trinity River, Coffee Creek Pond and nearby Trinity Lake which also has bass, catfish, and kokanee.
