Bike the San Juan Islands

E-mail Print PDF

Biking the San Juan Islands

Climb onto a large ferry and head for Washington’s San Juan Islands where Backroads offers six day, van-supported family bicycle trips.  Designed to accommodate children 7 and older, the younger ones can trail in a burley (cart).  You can arrange to bike 20-50 miles a day or ride in the accompanying van, stopping to swim in small island lakes, hike mountain trails and learn to sea kayak.  Bald eagles are often seen soaring overhead as the group winds through forests and along rocky beaches.  Views of Puget Sound and the distant Cascade Range are never far away.  The inter-island ferry trips add to the adventure with the chance to see whales and porpoises.  Quaint inns provide comfortable sleeping accommodations or you can elect the outdoor camping option.  (Six days, with meals;  camping trip: $749 for adults, Inn trip: $1,298 for adults, discounts for children under age 16).  Backroads offers  active vacations world-wide.
