Disney’s Animal Kingdom

E-mail Print PDF

Kids' Korner

Hi kids,
Do you know that Disney’s “Animal Kingdom,” a new 500 acre theme park opens April 22, in Lake Buena Vista, Florida?
Some 1000 animals (many endangered) roam free among specially constructed habitats!  Imagine... trekking the Masai Mara in Africa... spotting lions fast asleep in the bush; getting up close to elephants and giraffe around thorny acacias; watching antelope, gazelles, and zebra grazing contently beyond a lagoon full of hippo; and on the river’s banks, seeing crocodiles sunning themselves!  You can visit Harambe Indian village, Gorilla Falls and “Oasis” and its waterfalls, home to birds, sloth, and kangaroo.  Venture through a rainforest and see Tiger and Komodo dragon in “Asia” (open in 1999).  At DinoLand watch excavation being done on a Tyrannosaurus Rex for a future exhibit.  Meet Rafiki, Baloo, and other Disney characters at Camp Minnie-Mickey and throughout the park, especially at Conservation Station, you’ll learn about the animals, why some are endangered and how we can help save them.
See you at Disney’s Animal Kingdom!
