Discover the up’s & down’s  of family skiing.

Skiing... ah, yes, the swoosh, slice, and slap of the skis as you gracefully maneuver to the bottom of an incline.  Then, one of your hot shot kids whooshes by, yelling back... “Come on... follow me!”  Gathering your chutzpah, you head out yelling far ahead... “Wait for your... mother!”
What’s more fun than a full day on the slopes: everyone bundled head to toe; sharing stories on the ski lifts high above the tree tops; traversing down through mother nature’s wonderland cloaked in winter splendor; sipping hot chocolate in the chalet; and, best of all... taking in the laughter and glee of our little red-nosed kids, perhaps experiencing their first snow outing!
Winter sports are many... downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, sledding, inner-tubing, snowmobiling, dog-sledding, and ice skating.
Skiing early or late in the season and traveling mid-week is usually cheaper than going during the holidays or on weekends.
Smaller resorts sometimes offer better rates for families--affordable lodging, discounted ski lessons and lift tickets, even kids skiing free!  Ski lessons for the kids can include 1/2 day or full-day ski instruction, lift tickets, rental equipment, food, and super-vision. Cross-country skiing  is less costly and a great alternative for enjoying the snowy wilderness.
Ski season usually opens after Thanksgiving and continues through Easter.
Following are a sampling of family ski resorts across the country.  Accommodations range from those right on the slopes, base lodges, to those just a few miles from the resort.
