Family Travel Adventure in Napa Valley's Yountville

by Jill Weinlein

Share family-friendly fun in Yountville with Jill and her family – hot air balloons, children’s parks, organic gardens, chicken coops, bee hives, French bistros, Swiss chocolates, trolley rides, and lots more. Here are her family-friendly favorites... what to do, what to see, and where to stay and eat while in Yountville, California.
Soar high above the Napa Valley.
The town of Yountville has a population of 2,933 and is located in Napa Valley’s wine country some 70 miles north of San Francisco. It’s a small town with a sophisticated lifestyle of restaurants, hotels and inns, spas, theater, and museum.

Yountville has one street that runs through town. My husband and our girls walked from the one end of Yountville to the other. Yountville Trolley offers a free door to door service through town with stops at city parks, restaurants and hotels.  It loops around downtown about every 30 minutes - Monday through Sunday except major holidays.

Treat your kids to a Trolley Ride.

We picked up a picnic from Bouchon Bakery on our way to one of the city’s parks. Yountville has seven parks and trails located throughout the city. The Yountville Community Park is on the north end at a trolley stop. There are climbing structures, a tire swing, and toddler area that will keep your little ones entertained.

Walking south from the park to Washington Street is the French Laundry’s Garden. It's fun for young and old to stroll about the three-acre garden filled with plots of exotic vegetables, all used in the preparation of the restaurant’s fabulous cuisine.

ACTIVITIES:

Hot Air Balloon Rides
Treat your family to a once in a lifetime experience - soaring high above the Napa valley countryside in a hot air balloon at sunrise. It’s exhilarating, well worth the early morning getup call. A scrumptious brunch is offered as a special end to an amazing adventure.

French Laundry's Garden
Stroll through a 3-acre garden, full of edible vegetables.
Take your family on a
free self-gu
ided tour of this restaurant’s three-acre garden with plots of broccoli, beets, garlic, cucumbers, cabbage, peas, asparagus, tomatoes, lettuce, leeks, turnips and more – all pesticide free.  Our girls were especially fond of the chicken coop - happy chickens laying farm fresh eggs. But it was the bee hive that provided endless conversation during dinner.

Napa Valley Lodge is the only hotel in Yountville that sits in the middle of a vineyard and surrounded by acres of Cabernet Sauvignon grape vines. Our family enjoyed our room with the views of the vineyard along with the warmth of the fireplace. There’s a community park with a play ground across the street. Ours girls were the first to jump into the heated pool and whirlpool spa. There is a bocce ball court and fitness room. The lodge offers free Wi-Fi, a complimentary breakfast buffet, free fresh-baked cookies, and hot tea and coffee in the lobby. My husband and I especially enjoyed the complimentary evening wine tasting from a local winery.
